A few weeks ago, a professor challenged our class to find out the meanings of our last names. I've tried searching the internet, but with no luck - all I can pull up is stuff about my immediate or extended family! Anyway, if anyone knows any good sites or can help, let me know.
Thanks!
Slovenian last name meanings?

I think this site may have credible information. It might tempt you to find out more about the persons with the name. What your teacher might not know is that it isn't guaranteed that all last names will have a meaning.
Please AVOID houseofnames at all costs. It is part of a group based with Swyrich corp, and well documented in expert genealogy circles as being unreliable, if not a scam. Many well qualified genealogists have checked out the information there, and found it to be not worth the keychains that it is printed on. Unfortunately, we get posters here weekly who stumble onto to it, and who have not bothered to check out its background.
Reply:hmmm, i'd try

it's apparently a "series of articles" of Slovenian surnames. on the left is a series of hyperlinks Janez Keber: Priimki 1 - 6, that list alphabetically many Slovenian surnames.
i don't suppose your Solvenian surname is Jewish? I know there is a book on East-european Jewish surnames that i've had some luck with. - i'm more familar with East-erupean Jewish names - Russian, Austrian-Hungarian %26amp; Slovakianthan Slovenian unfortunately.
i'd also try checking out some Slovenian message boards, message boards on Slovenia - such as ancestry.com or rootsweb.com or a Slovenian email list.
good luck.
