I found four different meanings just by visiting 2 sites. I found the same name can have multiple meanings in different cultures, ask your parents which meaning they were going for or pick the one you like the best.
Reply:The girl's name Maya \ma-ya\ is pronounced MYE-ah. It is of Spanish, Hindi and Russian origin. In Spanish, short form of Amalia. In Hindi, from Sanskrit, meaning "dream, illusion". In Russian, a form of Mary. A star constellation. See also Mai.

i dnt think names say much about our personalities, like my name Lucie, means light and is the french version or something, that doesn't rly explain anything about who i am.
Reply:Yes names mean a lot and they say nothing. The picture is like a ripe peach on the green tree the reds and peach colors are there and the eye of a girl. So I guess it is all true. I believe your ancestor's guide the name choosing in life and it has to fit your personality before you arrived here on earth. My name is associated with integrity and singleness and it seems to be true.
Reply:your far to young to be worrying about being a sex goddess... infact you shouldn't really even know all that much about sex...

don't try to grow up too soon sweety you have a lifetime to be an adult... cling to your childhood as hard and fast as you can.
Reply:Maya - Pronounced MAH - YEAH. Female noun / Feminine adjective. Originallly from Sanskrit (Indian sub-continent), meaning Illusion, Deception.

Plus, it has nothing to do with sex.

Maya is a feminine name with multiple meanings. In Hindu mythology M膩y膩 (啶ぞ啶ぞ in Sanskrit) means "illusion" and is also an alternate name of the Hindu goddess Durga. According to tradition, Queen M膩y膩 of Sakya was also the name of the mother of Siddartha Gautama, the Buddha. In Hebrew, the name Maya (诪址讬指旨讛 in Hebrew) is a short form of "ma'ayan," meaning "spring" or "brook." It is also used as a variant form of the Greek-origin name Maia (螠伪喂伪 in Ancient Greek), the eldest of the Pleiades in Greek and Roman mythology. It can also be a name used as a tribute to the Maya peoples of southern Mexico and northern Central America or to the Maya, a group of Indigenous Australians. Sometimes spelled Maja, it can also be used as a short form of Maria or Mary in Germany, Scandinavian countries, Poland, Slovenia, Croatia, and Serbia. Maya is also used as a short form for the name Amalia or the Basque name Amaia or Amaya (meaning "the end") in Spanish-speaking countries. Maya can also be a name of Japanese origin, with different meanings. Variants include Mayako and Mayaka. Mount Maya is a Japanese mountain named for the mother of Buddha. The similar sounding Japanese name Mayu means "truth, reason," while some sources say Amaya (pronounced A-MAH-YAH) is a Japanese name meaning "night rain" [1] [2]

Maya has been a popular name for girls in recent years. It is currently in the top hundred names used for baby girls in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Belgium, Norway, and Israel as well as in other countries.[3] Alternate spellings proliferate, with the name sometimes spelled Maia, Mya, or Myah.
