Mireille was created by the French poet Fr茅d茅ric Mistral, as the title of one of his verse romance. He later named his daughter this, the first ever to be baptized Mireille, in 1861. When the priest inquired about the name, Mistral claimed that it was a Proven莽al form of Marie, from the Latin verb "mirare" (to admire). This explanation is false as Marie is not related to 'mirare', yet Mireille could indeed be an elaborated form of it.
